Jimmy Garoppolo: Replacing Derek Carr with Jimmy Garoppolo is a lateral move, at best, for the Raiders and the offense's outlook overall. From a fantasy perspective, Jimmy G. offers no upside as a runner and is a middling QB2, at best.

Josh Jacobs: Jacobs led the NFL in rushing yards (1,653), yards from scrimmage (2,053) and touches (393) in 2022. He dominated the team's running back touches, as the rest of the team's backs had a total of 77 (16.4%). In addition, Jacobs averaged a career-high 4.9 YPC and has now exceeded 50 catches in back-to-back seasons. While there was plenty of offseason drama around his status, Jacobs is back in the building on a one-year, $12 million contract.

Zamir White: White, a fourth-round pick in 2022, played much less than expected during his rookie season (17 carries in 2022). The Athletic's Tashan Reed wrote in June that "the Raiders may call on White to balance out the workload a bit more in 2023." Even though Jacobs is back, White is a late-round sleeper worth stashing on your fantasy bench(es).

Davante Adams: In his first season without Aaron Rodgers, Adams was targeted a career-high 180 times and finished with 100 catches for 1,516 yards and a league-leading 14 touchdowns. Adams remains (one of) the league's best red zone weapon with double-digit touchdowns in six of the past seven seasons.

Jakobi Meyers: Meyers finished with 67 catches for 804 yards and six touchdowns in 2022 as he averaged a career-high 57.4 YPG. Given his familiarity with the offense and that Darren Waller is now a Giant, Meyers should rank (albeit a distant) second on the team in receiving, producing flex numbers in 2023.

Michael Mayer: While he's not an elite athlete, Mayer is a savvy route-runner with strong hands who led Notre Dame in receiving all three years he was in South Bend. His all-around skill set could accelerate his adjustment to the NFL.

Austin Hooper: Hooper was a top-10 fantasy tight end in back-to-back seasons in 2018 and 2019, respectively, but that feels like an eternity ago. The Raiders drafted Michael Mayer in the second round, and although rookie tight ends tend to start slowly, Mayer is clearly their tight end of the future.

He dominated the team's running back touches, as the rest of the team's backs had a total of 77 (16.4%). In addition, Jacobs averaged a career-high 4.9 YPC and has now exceeded 50 catches in back-to-back seasons. That's the good news, but it's unclear when (or possibly even if) he'll sign his franchise tender after the team and Jacobs failed to reach a long-term agreement before July's deadline.

Trey Lance: The assumption all offseason and training camp was that Jimmy Garoppolo would play elsewhere in 2022. While the 49ers and Jimmy G. agreed to a restructured contract, he goes into the season as the team's No. 2 behind Lance (and the league's highest-paid backup). If things go right, Lance has enormous upside given his dual-threat skill set. If things don't go as well as expected, however, how long of a leash will Lance get before the team makes a quarterback change?

Elijah Mitchell: Mitchell missed six games as a rookie, but he was the clear lead back when he was on the field. Counting three playoff games, Mitchell had a minimum in 17 carries in 11 of 14 games in 2021. (Mitchell had 68.3% of the non-QB carries in those other three games.) ESPN's Nick Wagoner noted earlier this offseason that the 49ers "injury concerns about Mitchell are real" and he missed the preseason with a hamstring injury.

Jeff Wilson: Given that a different player has led the 49ers in rushing in each of Kyle Shanahan's five seasons as head coach, it's never a bad idea to throw a late-round dart at the team's projected RB2. Perhaps Tyrion Davis-Price, the team's third-round pick, moves up the depth chart, but it was Wilson that started the team's preseason finale with Mitchell sidelined.

Deebo Samuel: After missing nine games in 2020, Samuel had a breakout campaign (77/1,405/6 receiving and 59/365/8 rushing) in 2021. With a new contract extension in hand, the versatile wideout said he's not opposed to his hybrid "wide back" role. Samuel's physical play style and role puts him at increased risk for injury, but the do-it-all talent is a top-five receiver whenever he's on the field.

Brandon Aiyuk: Aiyuk exceeded 15 receiving yards in only two of his first six games last season and totalled only 9/96/1 receiving during that span. That said, he was much more productive and consistent from Week 8 on, as he closed the season with 47/730/4 over the final 11 games of the season. The upside is there for Aiyuk to vastly outperform his current ADP.

George Kittle: Since his second season (2018), Kittle has averaged a 17-game pace of 95/1,299/6. While he's missed at least two games in three consecutive seasons, he's averaged 86.1, 75.2, 79.3 and 65.0 yards per game over the past four seasons, respectively. Given that he's arguably the most talented all-around tight end in the league, Kittle has had a relatively high share of duds (example: 2/21, 1/29 and 5/10 over the final three weeks, respectively) to go along with some monster outings (9/181/2 and 13/151/1 in back-to-back weeks last year). Despite some week-to-week volatility and shaky durability history, he's a top-five fantasy option, at worst.

Trey Lance: The (continued) assumption is that Jimmy Garoppolo will play elsewhere in 2022, even though he's still on the roster (as of early August), but Lance will be the starter either way. Currently being drafted just outside fantasy's top 12 quarterbacks, Lance offers fantasy managers enormous upside given his dual-threat abilities.

San Francisco 49ers Week 4 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2021 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the San Francisco 49ers rank in terms of average, best and worst:

Below you will find a Week 4 roundup for the 49ers in our consensus 2021 NFL Power Rankings.

ESPN -- Rank: 11

Jimmy Garoppolo has been OK through three games, which is clear from his standing right in the middle of the pack. The Niners have to be encouraged by the fact that he has only one interception but frustrated by some of the inconsistency and the team's penchant for slow starts over the past couple of games. Garoppolo still struggles to push the ball down the field; he has attempted just four passes traveling 20-plus yards in the air, completing one and throwing his lone pick on another. That inability combined with a lack of dynamic running ability could lead to the drumbeat for rookie Trey Lance growing louder if a few losses pile up. -- Nick Wagoner

They left too much damn time on the clock. Kyle Juszczyk's touchdown catch capped a 75-yard drive that put the 49ers ahead late in the fourth quarter, but the Niners failed to bleed the maximum amount of time off the clock before giving the ball back to Aaron Rodgers. The final 37 seconds were just enough for the Packers to move into Niners territory and boot the game-ending field goal in a 30-28 loss for San Francisco. This had to be especially painful for Kyle Shanahan, who made Rodgers trade inquiries during the MVP's offseason of squabbling with Green Bay. He didn't get his man, and now he had to watch helplessly as Rodgers stole away a win that could have huge ramifications in the NFC.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 7

That was a tough loss to the Packers, but they showed a lot in rallying back to take a late lead. They lost because they messed up the end of the game in terms of clock management.

USA Today -- Rank: 15

If they're going to remain average while running the ball and defensively, they're not going to return to Super Bowl contention. Hosting the Seahawks and visiting the Cardinals over the next two weeks should be a good litmus test.

The Athletic -- Rank: 10

Surprise! I suppose we could give Kyle Shanahan credit for his commitment to the Jimmy Garoppolo plan. But it is somewhat surprising that we haven't seen Shanahan reveal more of the packages in place for Trey Lance, or that the head coach hasn't gotten more antsy to make a change at quarterback. Starting 2-0 certainly helped, but we do wonder just how long Shanahan will be OK using Lance in such a limited fashion (even if he is effective as a runner in the red zone).

San Francisco 49ers Week 1 NFL Power Rankings Roundup

Throughout the 2021 NFL season, we will compile a consensus NFL Power Rankings that averages the rankings of all 32 NFL teams.

Here is where the San Francisco 49ers rank in terms of average, best and worst:

ESPN -- Rank: 10

Person on the hot seat: QB Jimmy Garoppolo

Realistically, this decision was made once the Niners traded up to No. 3 and drafted QB Trey Lance. But Garoppolo is still clinging to his starting job, and the longer he does that -- and stays healthy -- the better it will bode for his future. It's unlikely he could do enough to stay beyond this year, but either way, this is a huge season from a career standpoint. Garoppolo is under contract for just one more season after this, but a big year would undoubtedly increase his trade value and could put him in position to land another sizable contract as a starter somewhere else. -- Nick Wagoner

The training camp QB competition played out like a soapy FOX prime-time show of the '90s, but credit Kyle Shanahan for keeping things from becoming a capital-D Distraction in Santa Clara. Everyone knows Trey Lance will have a role on this team -- Shanahan has said as much -- but the obvious question remains unanswered: When does Lance's role exceed Jimmy Garoppolo's? Shanahan will likely begin the season implementing both QBs in game action (and have some nerdy offensive-genius fun while he does it). Lance's role will blossom in accordance with how many splash plays he can deliver when given the opportunity.

CBS Sports -- Rank: 6

No matter who plays quarterback, this is the team I think will win the NFC West. Jimmy Garoppolo will likely start the season, but Trey Lance will get snaps as well. They are healthy again, which is bad news for the rest of the division.

USA Today -- Rank: 9

If you're a West Coast team opening with a pair of 1 p.m. kickoffs in the Eastern time zone, you want them -- this year, anyway -- in Detroit and Philadelphia.

The Athletic -- Rank: 9

Why they're ranked here: Our panel has the 49ers as a fringe top-10 team, with 56 percent slotting San Francisco between spots 8 to 11. The 49ers should again boast a good defense, but the optimism lies in the fact they will almost certainly get better quarterback play than they did a year ago.

One big question: How will the offense change with Trey Lance? The rookie may not be the starting quarterback Week 1, especially amid his finger injury. But Lance will eventually get the call this season, and it'll be fascinating to see how the offense changes at that point. Kyle Shanahan is great at scheming up quick, easy reads for quarterbacks, which could work well for the rookie.

Trey Lance: If Lance isn't named the Week 1 starter, fantasy managers will look to the team's bye (Week 6) as the next logical point to potentially hand the reigns over to the rookie signal-caller. Not only is Lance making a big jump from the FCS level to the NFL, but North Dakota State played only one game in 2020. Once Lance takes over, however, the dual-threat talent has the potential to make a similar fantasy impact as Josh Allen and RG3 did as rookie quarterbacks.

Jimmy Garoppolo: Jimmy G. may begin the season as the starter, but it's only a matter of time before the (starting) gig is up. Even when Garoppolo played a full 16-game season in 2019 and finished as fantasy's QB14, he only ranked 22nd in fantasy points scored per game.

Raheem Mostert: Missing half of the season, Mostert finished the year with 677 scrimmage yards (84.6/G) and only three touchdowns on 120 touches (15/G). Mostert has career averages of 5.6 YPC and 10.0 Y/R, but it's possible that Trey Sermon emerges as the team's top fantasy running back at some point this season.

Trey Sermon: Not only does Sermon have the highest draft pedigree (third round) among the team's running backs, but the Niners traded up to draft him. Given his frame, balance and vision, the team could look to make him their featured back sooner than later (as much as Kyle Shanahan will feature an individual back, that is).

Brandon Aiyuk: Selected by the 49ers in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Aiyuk missed four games as a rookie, but he finished with 60 receptions for 748 yards and five touchdowns while adding 77 rushing yards. Excluding missed games, Aiyuk was especially good during the six games in which he appeared from Weeks 7 to 15. During that span (Weeks 7-15), he had a minimum of 73 yards per game, averaged 94.7 YPG and scored the third-most fantasy PPG (17.1, half-PPR).

Deebo Samuel: Foot and hamstring injuries (plus the COVID-19 list) limited Samuel to only seven games in 2020. Samuel played only one snap (his final snap of 2020) against WFT in Week 14, but he had 65-plus yards in each of the final four games in which he appeared before that. Due to his physical playing style, he's always a threat to miss time, but he's a viable WR3 in the weeks that he's on the field.

George Kittle: Missing exactly half of the 2020 season, Kittle had 48/634/2 in eight games, comparable to a 96/1,268/4 (16-game) pace. In the previous two seasons, Kittle had 85/1,053/5 in 2019 and 88/1,377/5 in 2018. As long as his health cooperates, Kittle should approach another 1,000-yard campaign even if the team transitions to rookie Trey Lance early in the season.

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Ranking Week 8 QB Options

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

For a player to be listed, he must be owned in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. Of course, your league's size and settings could significantly impact whether these players (or better options) are available in your particular league(s).

With that said, here are some quarterback waiver-wire options to consider heading into Week 8 (Yahoo! % rostered in parenthesis):

1. Teddy Bridgewater, Carolina Panthers (44%)

Whether looking for a bye-week replacement for Kyler Murray or Deshaun Watson, both on bye in Week 8, or streaming the position by design or out of necessity (Dak Prescott's season-ending injury), Bridgewater is an ideal plug-and-play option off the waiver wire this week.

Bridgewater has thrown multiple touchdowns and scored at least 19 fantasy points in three of his past four games. In Week 8, Bridgewater gets a repeat matchup against one of those teams (Atlanta). In his first matchup, Bridgewater completed 27-of-36 for 313 yards and two touchdowns.

It's not just Bridgewater that has had success against the Falcons secondary; every quarterback has. The only game in which they did not allow a 300-yard passer was due to the fact that the Bears benched Mitch Trubisky for Nick Foles, but the duo combined for 316 passing yards and four touchdowns. Heading into Monday Night Football, no team has allowed more fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season than the Falcons.

2. Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders (29%)

While Carr has never been an elite fantasy quarterback (and still isn't), he's been more productive than most have realized as he's never finished worse than the QB20 (2014, rookie season). Since Week 2, Carr has averaged 297.4 passing yards per game and thrown multiple touchdowns every week. During that five-game stretch, the veteran quarterback has compiled a 12-to-two TD-INT ratio.

Carr has now scored 20-plus fantasy points in three consecutive games and four of his past five. To help maintain his current hot streak, the Raiders quarterback gets a favorable matchup in Week 8 against the Browns, who have allowed the seventh-most fantasy points per game this season. In addition, they have allowed four games of 24-plus fantasy points to opposing signal-callers in 2020.

3. Baker Mayfield, Cleveland Browns (33%)

Mayfield is coming off his best performance of the season, by far. In a battle of former No. 1 overall picks (Mayfield vs. Joe Burrow), the Browns quarterback completed 22-of-28 for 297 yards, five touchdowns and an interception despite losing Odell Beckham to a torn ACL. Aside from Week 7, gaudy production has eluded Mayfield, but he has now thrown multiple scores in five of six games.

The loss of OBJ diminishes Mayfield's upside, but like the quarterbacks listed above him, he gets a favorable matchup as well. The Raiders have allowed the sixth-most fantasy points this season. While Mayfield isn't in the tier of quarterbacks the Raiders defense had to face over the past three weeks (Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes and Tom Brady), they have allowed an average of 30.99 fantasy points over that stretch.

4. Jimmy Garoppolo, San Francisco 49ers (30%)

While his numbers include a benching (vs. Miami), Garoppolo has averaged only 24.8 pass attempts per game this season. Excluding the Dolphins game, the average increases to only 26.75 per game. As much as the 49ers love to run the ball, game script may force Garoppolo to sling it much more often as they try to keep up with Russell Wilson and the high-flying Seahawks offense in Week 8. Not only do the Seahawks average a league-high 33.8 offensive points per game, they have allowed the second-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks as well.
