QUARTERBACKS

Brock Purdy441.4295.73398.822.5111.0454.8109.61.1221.47

Trey Lance31.219.3230.91.530.916.6780.524.36

Brock Purdy: Mr. Irrelevant is the term given to the final pick of each NFL draft, but Purdy, the last pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, was anything but irrelevant in his rookie season. From December through his final snap of the playoffs, Purdy completed 151-of-224 pass attempts (67.4%) for 1,877 yards (8.38 Y/A), 16 touchdowns (7.1%) and only three interceptions (1.3%). Firmly entrenched as the starter going into 2023, there appear to be no lingering concerns following his offseason UCL surgery.

Sam Darnold: Excluding a terrible performance (2.8 passer rating) in 2022's season finale with the Panthers, Darnold was playing really well before that last year. In fact, he threw for 1,100 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception with a 105.4 passer rating in his other five games last season while adding 74 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Trey Lance: Lance has immense dual-threat upside if he gets the opportunity to make starts in 2023 and reaches his full potential, but it's possible that Sam Darnold would get the nod ahead of him if Purdy were to miss any time.

RUNNING BACKS

Tyrion Davis-Price11.548.30.322.114.70.19.87

Christian McCaffrey: After two injury-plagued seasons, McCaffrey played a full 17-game slate in 2022 split between the Panthers and 49ers. If there's a concern (albeit only a slight one), it's the potential for the 49ers to scale back CMC's workload to preserve his health for a full season including the playoffs, especially given their talented supporting cast when at full strength.

When healthy, however, few, if any, running backs have a higher floor and ceiling due to his ability as a runner and receiver. From Week 7 (when SF traded for him) through the end of the season, he tied Tennessee's Derrick Henry for the most fantasy points per game (half-PPR). McCaffrey has a minimum of 80 catches in each of his four full seasons, and he's averaged 113.1 yards per scrimmage per game over his career.

Elijah Mitchell: Mitchell won't offer much stand-alone value, but he would have enormous upside if Christian McCaffrey were to miss any time during the 2023 season. While CMC deserves to be considered at pick 1.01 in fantasy drafts, we've seen how productive non-CMC backs (including Mitchell) have been when given the opportunity.

Danny Gray3.449.70.3180.059.57
Ronnie Bell3.139.70.30007.32

Deebo Samuel: Samuel has missed multiple games in two of the past three seasons, and his physical play style increases his durability risk. Playing in 13 games and describing his own play as "awful" last season, Samuel finished with 56 receptions for 632 yards and two touchdowns and added 42 carries for 232 yards and three touchdowns. At a minimum, a motivated Samuel should be better on a per-touch basis in 2023 than he was last year.

Brandon Aiyuk: Aiyuk had the best season of his young career in 2022 with 78 catches for 1,015 yards and eight touchdowns, all career highs, and he was a top-15 fantasy wide receiver (half-PPR scoring). The only concern with Aiyuk, and other San Francisco skill-position players, is the competition for touches with so many talented pass catchers on the roster.

George Kittle: Compared to his elite talent, Kittle is often under-targeted. Even so, he has finished as a top-four fantasy tight end in four of the past five seasons. The exception was when he missed eight games in 2020, but he finished third on a PPG basis that season behind Travis Kelce and Darren Waller. The other concern with Kittle is he has missed multiple games in four consecutive seasons, but he has averaged 70.4/947.8/5.8 per 17 games over the past five years.

Jimmy Garoppolo42.728.7328.82.011.137.610.30.1921.1

Trey Lance: The assumption all offseason and training camp was that Jimmy Garoppolo would play elsewhere in 2022. While the 49ers and Jimmy G. agreed to a restructured contract, he goes into the season as the team's No. 2 behind Lance (and the league's highest-paid backup). If things go right, Lance has enormous upside given his dual-threat skill set. If things don't go as well as expected, however, how long of a leash will Lance get before the team makes a quarterback change?

Jordan Mason10.142.90.251.28.20.17.81

Elijah Mitchell: Mitchell missed six games as a rookie, but he was the clear lead back when he was on the field. Counting three playoff games, Mitchell had a minimum in 17 carries in 11 of 14 games in 2021. (Mitchell had 68.3% of the non-QB carries in those other three games.) ESPN's Nick Wagoner noted earlier this offseason that the 49ers "injury concerns about Mitchell are real" and he missed the preseason with a hamstring injury.

Jeff Wilson: Given that a different player has led the 49ers in rushing in each of Kyle Shanahan's five seasons as head coach, it's never a bad idea to throw a late-round dart at the team's projected RB2. Perhaps Tyrion Davis-Price, the team's third-round pick, moves up the depth chart, but it was Wilson that started the team's preseason finale with Mitchell sidelined.

Ray-Ray McCloud3.940.80.21.510.90.068.68

Deebo Samuel: After missing nine games in 2020, Samuel had a breakout campaign (77/1,405/6 receiving and 59/365/8 rushing) in 2021. With a new contract extension in hand, the versatile wideout said he's not opposed to his hybrid "wide back" role. Samuel's physical play style and role puts him at increased risk for injury, but the do-it-all talent is a top-five receiver whenever he's on the field.

Brandon Aiyuk: Aiyuk exceeded 15 receiving yards in only two of his first six games last season and totalled only 9/96/1 receiving during that span. That said, he was much more productive and consistent from Week 8 on, as he closed the season with 47/730/4 over the final 11 games of the season. The upside is there for Aiyuk to vastly outperform his current ADP.

George Kittle: Since his second season (2018), Kittle has averaged a 17-game pace of 95/1,299/6. While he's missed at least two games in three consecutive seasons, he's averaged 86.1, 75.2, 79.3 and 65.0 yards per game over the past four seasons, respectively. Given that he's arguably the most talented all-around tight end in the league, Kittle has had a relatively high share of duds (example: 2/21, 1/29 and 5/10 over the final three weeks, respectively) to go along with some monster outings (9/181/2 and 13/151/1 in back-to-back weeks last year). Despite some week-to-week volatility and shaky durability history, he's a top-five fantasy option, at worst.

Currently being drafted just outside fantasy's top 12 quarterbacks, Lance offers fantasy managers enormous upside given his dual-threat abilities.

Week 7 Fantasy Football Waiver-Wire QB Rankings

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

For a player to be listed, he must be rostered in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. Of course, your league's size and settings could significantly impact whether these players (or better options) are available in your particular league(s).

With that said, here are some quarterback waiver-wire options to consider heading into Week 7 (Yahoo! % rostered in parenthesis):

[Note: Players listed below are sorted by our preference to add.]

Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins (16%)

Tagovailoa returned to the field and proceeded to throw it 47 times for 329 yards, two touchdowns and an interception and added 22 rushing yards. If you're looking for a streamer, Tagovailoa could be a viable option as the Dolphins return from their trip across the pond to face the Atlanta Falcons. The Falcons have allowed the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season.

The Falcons have allowed three top-six weekly quarterbacks in their five games played this season. In those three games, they allowed a total of 11 passing touchdowns with zero interceptions.

Justin Fields, Chicago Bears (32%)

Going into Sunday's matchup against the Green Bay Packers, Fields was about as bad as it could get as a fantasy quarterback. After all, he had finished the week as the QB34, QB32 and QB31, respectively, in his first three weeks as the starter.

Not great, but things were a little better in Week 6. Fields finished 16-of-27 for 174 yards, a touchdown and an interception to go along with six carries for 43 yards. It was good to see him use his legs more, which could help create a fantasy floor in games where the passing numbers are mediocre.

Fields isn't someone that I'd want to stream against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 7 even though the matchup is favorable, but the potential for increased utilization of his rushing ability on a more regular basis makes him a stash consideration.

Fantasy Football Week 5 QB Start'em, Sit'em

The decision on which player to start, or sit, largely comes down to the options on your roster (and/or possibly the players available on your league's waiver wire).

As an example, Jalen Hurts is listed below as a "start" for Week 5. And I'd certainly be comfortable going into Week 5 with him as my starting quarterback.

Then again, Hurts may be a "sit" for your team.

In other words, if you own both Patrick Mahomes and Hurts, you should start Mahomes and, in turn, bench Hurts.

For a more direct answer on whether we would start Player X over Player Y, check our Week 5 Fantasy Football Rankings. Instead of making those direct comparisons, the goal here is to highlight players that we like, or dislike, for the week.

Week 5 Fantasy Football QB Start'em

Kirk Cousins, Minnesota Vikings (vs. DET)

Beginning the season with three consecutive games of 22-plus fantasy points, it was a disappointment for managers that streamed Cousins in Week 4. While Cousins had a dud (203 yards, one TD) against the Cleveland Browns, a matchup against the Detroit Lions should propel him back to the low-end QB1 range for those looking for a streamer.

The Lions have been middle of the pack in terms of fantasy points allowed to opposing quarterbacks (14th-most), but much of that can be attributed to how successful opposing running backs have been against them (most fantasy points allowed). After all, the Lions allow a league-worst 10.6 passing yards per attempt and have the third-worst QB rating allowed (116.4).

Minnesota's ground game should roll even if Dalvin Cook is inactive, but I'd expect an efficient performance from Cousins as well. The Vikings have one of the week's top-three highest implied totals.

Jalen Hurts, Philadelphia Eagles (at CAR)

Two quarterbacks this season have finisheid as a top-12 fantasy quarterback in each of the first four weeks -- Patrick Mahomes and Hurts. The second-year quarterback's worst fantasy performance came in Week 2 when he threw for 190 yards and no touchdowns and scored a season-low 21.8 (QB10) fantasy points. On the season, Hurts has scored the third-most fantasy points behind Mahomes and Kyler Murray.

Because of his elite rushing ability for a quarterback, however, he has an incredibly high floor even when he doesn't have a big passing day. Hurts has a minimum of seven rush attempts and 35 rushing yards in all four games this season. Only Lamar Jackson (42/279) has more rush attempts and rushing yards than Hurts (34/226) among quarterbacks.

Despite having one of the week's lowest implied totals and facing a tough defense (ninth-lowest fantasy points allowed), Hurts remains a weekly start.

Trey Lance, San Francisco 49ers (at ARI)

It was far from a perfect performance, but Lance was forced into action with Jimmy Garoppolo sustaining a calf injury and he still managed to score more than 20 fantasy points in a half of action. This year's No. 3 overall pick completed nine-of-18 for 157 yards and two scores while adding seven rush attempts for 41 yards and a two-point conversion.

With Jimmy G. sidelined this week at practice, it has allowed Lance to take all of the first-team reps heading into Week 5 and he's been officially declared the starter. The 49ers will need to keep up with Arizona's elite offense as the 49ers are 5.5-point underdogs.

While the play could be inconsistent in his first start, his dual-threat abilities raise his floor and there is enormous upside as well. I currently have Lance ranked as my QB12 for the week, but there's a good chance that he moves up a couple of spots as I finalize my Week 5 rankings.

Week 5 Fantasy Football QB Sit'em

Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans (at JAX)

In his first season and a half, Tannehill was extremely efficient as a starter in Tennessee's low-volume passing offense. With Arthur Smith in Atlanta, Tannehill has thrown it more often but has been much less efficient. His 63.6% completion rate, 3.3 TD% and 7.0 Y/A are all multi-year lows. Even though he ranks top 10 in pass attempts (151), he entered Week 5 as the QB19 in fantasy points scored.

On a positive note, Tannehill will get A.J. Brown back this week although Julio Jones (hamstring) won't play. In addition, he has been virtually flawless against the Jaguars in his three starts as a Titan with passer ratings of 155.8, 145.7 and 131.2, respectively, and a cumulative eight-to-zero TD-to-INT ratio, 77.3% completion ratio and 10.76 Y/A over that span.

Even so, I consider Tannehill to be more of an upside QB2 in a plus matchup this week. At the same time, this could easily turn into a 200/2 game for Derrick Henry. In fact, Henry had 215 rushing yards and two touchdowns against them in Week 14 last season.

Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders (vs. CHI)

While Matthew Stafford has more passing yards than Carr, it's only because Stafford and the Rams played on Thursday night. On a per-game basis, Carr leads the NFL in passing yards (349.8/G). And although he has multiple passing touchdowns in all four games this season, Carr is coming off his worst performance of the season (196 passing yards against the Chargers). Meanwhile, the Chicago Bears have allowed the 10th-fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season.

Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons (vs. NYJ)

With four passing touchdowns to running backs -- Cordarrelle Patterson (three) and Mike Davis -- last week, Ryan is coming off his best performance of the season. Perhaps he will duplicate a four-TD performance to his running backs (of course, he won't), but Calvin Ridley and Russell Gage will both be out this week.

For a quarterback that has generally struggled this season even with a stud receiver like Ridley in the lineup, there is limited upside as the team takes on the Jets on the other side of the Atlantic. One of the few bright spots for the Jets has been their pass defense, as they have surrendered the third-fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks and a league-low two pass touchdowns this season.

Fantasy Football QB Waiver-Wire Options Heading Into Week 5

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

For a player to be listed, he must be rostered in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. Of course, your league's size and settings could significantly impact whether these players (or better options) are available in your particular league(s).

With that said, here are some quarterback waiver-wire options to consider heading into Week 5 (Yahoo! % rostered in parenthesis):

1. Trey Lance, San Francisco 49ers (30%)

In previous iterations of our waiver-wire column, I've noted that Lance becomes a better option as each week passes given the expectation that the No. 3 overall pick eventually becomes the starter at some point this season. With a Week 6 bye, Week 7 has seemed like a logical transition point to Lance.

With Jimmy Garoppolo sustaining a calf injury this week, however, Lance was forced to take over in the second half. The rookie completed nine-of-18 for 157 yards (8.7 Y/A) and two touchdowns and added 41 rushing yards on seven carries and a two-point conversion. Lance scored more than 20 fantasy points in a half of action.

That said, Garoppolo said he has "hope [he misses] just a couple of weeks or something." Given his dual-threat abilities, Lance has enormous upside and it's unlikely that Jimmy G. gets the starting job back.

2. Daniel Jones, Daniel Jones (31%)

Jones threw for a season-high 402 yards and two touchdowns against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Scoring 27.78 fantasy points in the OT win, Jones has now scored 21-plus fantasy points in three of four games this season and currently ranks among the top-six fantasy QBs on the season (through Sunday's games).

The Giants will head to Dallas in Week 5. Historically (four games, three starts), Jones has had modest performances against the Cowboys -- no more than 229 passing yards in any game.

The Cowboys have been playing better defense this year and Trevon Diggs (five interceptions) is developing into one of the league's top corners, but the Cowboys have allowed four 300-yard passing games through four weeks. In each of those games, the Cowboys have faced a minimum of 39 pass attempts and three of the four quarterbacks they've faced have scored at least 22 fantasy points.

Even if he doesn't post gaudy passing statistics, Jones has the underrated ability to make plays with his legs. With 188 rushing yards through four games, he's on pace for 799 rushing yards. While unlikely to get that close to 800 rushing yards, he ranked seventh among QBs in rushing last season.

3. Sam Darnold, Carolina Panthers (37%)

Despite the loss in Dallas in Week 4, it's been so far, so good for Darnold. Not only does the 24-year-old quarterback have three consecutive 300-yard passing games, but he has rushed for multiple scores in back-to-back games. Through Sunday's games, Darnold is a top-five fantasy quarterback on the season.

With a matchup against the Eagles in Week 5, Darnold is once again worthy of streamer status.

Note: Mac Jones faces the Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys and New York Jets over the next three weeks, which sets up favorably for some streaming opportunities.

Fantasy Football Week 3 QB Waiver Wire

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

For a player to be listed, he must be rostered in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. Of course, your league's size and settings could significantly impact whether these players (or better options) are available in your particular league(s).

With that said, here are some quarterback waiver-wire options to consider heading into Week 3 (Yahoo! % rostered in parenthesis):

[Note: Players listed below are sorted by our preference to add.]

1. Daniel Jones, New York Giants (19%)

Doing their part to surround Jones with more talent, the Giants' front office signed Kenny Golladay to a big free-agent contract this offseason and drafted Kadarius Toney in the first round. Neither Golladay nor Toney has contributed as much as one might expect given the capital required to add them to the roster and the team has also been without last season's target leader (Evan Engram, 109) as well.

Even though Sterling Shepard has been productive (16/207/1), Jones has had limited passing success against two difficult defenses. Throwing one touchdown in each of those two games, Jones has passed for 249 and 267 yards, respectively, against the Washington Football Team and Denver Broncos.

Even so, he has scored 21-plus fantasy points in back-to-back games to open the season and has more than 50 fantasy points through two games. Heading into MNF, he's the QB5.

One of the reasons why I was higher on Jones in the preseason (QB18) compared to the FantasyPros ECR (QB25) was his sneaky rushing upside (in addition to the upgrades to the receiving corps). Jones had the seventh-most QB rushing yards (423) in 2020 and he leads the Giants in rushing (15/122/2) through two weeks.

Not only should Jones get more help from the team's bolstered receiving corps, but he gets a couple of favorable matchups in the near future. The Giants face the Atlanta Falcons in Week 3 and the Dallas Cowboys in Week 5.

2. Trey Lance, San Francisco 49ers (39%)

Even if he doesn't play (like in Week 2), Lance's value increases weekly as we continue to move closer to a potential transition to the rookie as the starter. Lance took a few snaps and threw a touchdown on his only pass attempt in Week 1. Even though he gained only two yards on three carries, Lance has elite dual-threat upside that will allow him to become a weekly top-10 option once he replaces Jimmy Garoppolo as the starter.

The 49ers have a Week 6 bye, the earliest possible bye. Perhaps that makes for the most logical transition point. The only concern is the 49ers continue to employ a rotation where they use Lance on occasion, as the 49ers have one of the league's best rosters and Kyle Shanahan may prefer to keep the steady hand of a veteran quarterback until next season.

3. Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders (26%)

While Carr has historically lacked upside, he typically outperforms expectations. Not only was he fantasy's QB13 in 2020, but he has never finished outside the top 20 fantasy quarterbacks (yearly).

Upcoming matchups are difficult, but he has just faced the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers to open the 2021 season. Granted, these numbers included overtime, but Carr threw for 435 yards and two touchdowns against the Ravens and followed that up with 373 yards and another two touchdowns against the Steelers.

4. Sam Darnold, Carolina Panthers (15%)

In his first two games as a Panther, Darnold has scored at least 19 fantasy points each week. On the year, he has completed 50-of-73 (68.5%) for 584 yards (8.0 Y/A), three touchdowns and one interception.

Darnold and the 2-0 Panthers will take their show on the road to the Lone Star state as they face the Houston Texans on Thursday Night Football and then the Dallas Cowboys in Week 4. Both defenses provide the 24-year-old quarterback with an opportunity to post a couple of productive fantasy outings if you're in need of a streamer.

5. Teddy Bridgewater, Denver Broncos (17%)

If you're looking ahead to Week 4 (vs. Ravens) or Week 5 (at Steelers), difficult matchups face Bridgewater. But if you have your sights on what's directly in front of you, it's a soft matchup against the New York Jets for Bridgewater.

Even without Jerry Jeudy, who seemed poised for a breakout, Denver's signal-caller had another efficient outing, albeit against a fantasy-friendly defense in Week 2. Bridgewater completed 26-of-34 for 328 yards and two scores against the Jaguars. With back-to-back 20-point fantasy performances, Bridgewater has completed 77.1% of his pass attempts for 8.46 Y/A, four touchdowns and no interceptions.

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: QB Options Heading into Week 2

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

For a player to be listed, he must be rostered in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. Of course, your league's size and settings could significantly impact whether these players (or better options) are available in your particular league(s).

With that said, here are some quarterback waiver-wire options to consider heading into Week 2 (Yahoo! % rostered in parenthesis):

[Note: Players listed below are sorted by our preference to add.]

1. Jameis Winston, New Orleans Saints (44%)

Two years removed from his 2019 YOLO campaign of 5,109 yards and 30 interceptions, both of which led the NFL, Winston has begun his tenure as the Saints starting quarterback with elite efficiency. Despite what should have been a difficult matchup against the Green Bay Packers, Winston and the Saints made it look easy as he threw five (yes, five!) touchdowns on only 20 pass attempts. Obviously, his 25.0 TD% will regress. While he only threw for 148 yards, Winston also added six carries for 37 yards.

The overall talent level of the pass catchers is a concern, especially while Michael Thomas is on the PUP list. But all of their games won't be 35-point victories either, so this week could mark his season low for pass attempts in a game. Winston is in the top-15 mix the rest of the way.

2. Trey Lance, San Francisco 49ers (44%)

The same applies to Justin Fields, rostered in 51% of Yahoo! leagues and therefore ineligible for this post, but Lance's value increases weekly as we continue to move closer to a likely transition to the rookie as the starter.

3. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers (39%)

Roethlisberger had a quiet Week 1 performance -- 18-of-32 for 188 yards and a score in an upset win over the Buffalo Bills. The Steelers may not lead the NFL in pass attempts again this season, but Big Ben has one of the most talented WR trios (Diontae Johnson, Chase Claypool and JuJu Smith-Schuster) at his disposal and he will get softer matchups coming up. The Steelers will face the Raiders, Bengals and Packers in their next three games.

4. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions (7%)

While there may be no such thing as a moral victory, it surely was an impressive near comeback for the Lions on Sunday. Down big, Goff needed to sling it 57 times; only Dak Prescott (58) threw it more this week. The former No. 1 overall pick finished with week with nearly 30 fantasy points as he threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns against the 49ers. The Lions are going to be big underdogs most weeks (double-digit underdogs vs. GB in Week 2), which could lead to many more high-volume outings for Goff.

Fantasy Football Projections 2021: San Francisco 49ers

Our 2021 Fantasy Football Projections will be viewable by both position and team.

Below you will find our 2021 fantasy football projections for the San Francisco 49ers.

MORE: Fantasy football projections for more NFL teams

QUARTERBACKS

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDPoints
Trey Lance366.6232.82657.916.59.1775.9417.53.04213.97
Jimmy Garoppolo176.5118.71367.99.095.2117.730.10.4486.31

Trey Lance: If Lance isn't named the Week 1 starter, fantasy managers will look to the team's bye (Week 6) as the next logical point to potentially hand the reigns over to the rookie signal-caller. Not only is Lance making a big jump from the FCS level to the NFL, but North Dakota State played only one game in 2020. Once Lance takes over, however, the dual-threat talent has the potential to make a similar fantasy impact as Josh Allen and RG3 did as rookie quarterbacks.

Jimmy Garoppolo: Jimmy G. may begin the season as the starter, but it's only a matter of time before the (starting) gig is up. Even when Garoppolo played a full 16-game season in 2019 and finished as fantasy's QB14, he only ranked 22nd in fantasy points scored per game.

RUNNING BACKS

Jeff Wilson15.267.60.423.528.20.215.05
Jamycal Hasty6.326.50.161.814.10.16.52

Raheem Mostert: Missing half of the season, Mostert finished the year with 677 scrimmage yards (84.6/G) and only three touchdowns on 120 touches (15/G). Mostert has career averages of 5.6 YPC and 10.0 Y/R, but it's possible that Trey Sermon emerges as the team's top fantasy running back at some point this season.

Trey Sermon: Not only does Sermon have the highest draft pedigree (third round) among the team's running backs, but the Niners traded up to draft him. Given his frame, balance and vision, the team could look to make him their featured back sooner than later (as much as Kyle Shanahan will feature an individual back, that is).

WIDE RECEIVERS

Trent Sherfield5.366.40.400011.69
Jauan Jennings0.910.10.10002.06

Brandon Aiyuk: Selected by the 49ers in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft, Aiyuk missed four games as a rookie, but he finished with 60 receptions for 748 yards and five touchdowns while adding 77 rushing yards. Excluding missed games, Aiyuk was especially good during the six games in which he appeared from Weeks 7 to 15. During that span (Weeks 7-15), he had a minimum of 73 yards per game, averaged 94.7 YPG and scored the third-most fantasy PPG (17.1, half-PPR).

Deebo Samuel: Foot and hamstring injuries (plus the COVID-19 list) limited Samuel to only seven games in 2020. Samuel played only one snap (his final snap of 2020) against WFT in Week 14, but he had 65-plus yards in each of the final four games in which he appeared before that. Due to his physical playing style, he's always a threat to miss time, but he's a viable WR3 in the weeks that he's on the field.

TIGHT ENDS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
George Kittle74.99405.66.339.40.16169.95
Ross Dwelley6.978.50.500014.3
Charlie Woerner4.956.40.400010.49

George Kittle: Missing exactly half of the 2020 season, Kittle had 48/634/2 in eight games, comparable to a 96/1,268/4 (16-game) pace. In the previous two seasons, Kittle had 85/1,053/5 in 2019 and 88/1,377/5 in 2018. As long as his health cooperates, Kittle should approach another 1,000-yard campaign even if the team transitions to rookie Trey Lance early in the season.

New England Patriots 2021 NFL Mock Draft Roundup 9.0

Throughout the year and leading up to the 2021 NFL draft, we will update our New England Patriots Mock Draft Roundup showing picks for the New England Patriots from several prominent sites and draft analysts.

The following are picks in recent mock drafts for the Patriots:

EDSFootball - Hanson (4/15)

15. Jaycee Horn, CB, South Carolina

The subject of offseason trade rumors, Stephon Gilmore is heading into the final year of his current deal and his age-31 season. Could the Patriots find a long-term replacement from his alma mater?

The son of former Pro Bowl receiver Joe Horn, Jaycee excels in press-man coverage due to his size, physical playing style and competitive demeanor. He helped his case with a strong performance at South Carolina's Pro Day -- 4.39 forty, 41.5" vertical and 11'1" broad jump.

Fox Sports - Rang (4/15)

15. Mac Jones, QB, Alabama

For all of the buzz about Jones and the 49ers, his game is much better suited to the up-tempo passing attack New England playcaller Josh McDaniels prefers. With Cam Newton retained (but only a one-year deal) and Jarrett Stidham showing little thus far (two TDs and four INTs since being drafted 113th overall in 2019), the Patriots could use help at the position.

CBS Sports - Jones (4/14)

4. Trey Lance, QB, North Dakota State

Trade details: Patriots give up first-rounder (No. 15) and second-rounder (No. 46), plus 2022 first- and third-round picks and a 2023 first-rounder. Patriots have been aggressive all offseason so why stop now? Lance has the brains to match the arm, and Bill Belichick liked what he saw from how Josh McDaniels opened up the playbook last year for a more physically capable quarterback. The Pats can start Cam Newton and develop Lance at his own pace. A big jump for the most dominant team of the 21st century requires a high price to pay.

Washington Post - Clayton (4/14)

15. DeVonta Smith, WR, Alabama

Smith won the Heisman Trophy in college, but there are some concerns about his size in the NFL, as he weighs only 170 pounds. It's possible teammate Jaylen Waddle goes ahead of him.

The Athletic - Brugler (4/14)

15. Zaven Collins, LB, Tulsa

With his athletic versatility at 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds, Collins is a very Patriots-like prospect and a great match in New England's scheme. His value as a cover man, blitzer and run-and-chase pursuit player has Bill Belichick written all over it.

Yahoo Sports! - Edholm (4/13)

15. Jaylen Waddle, WR, Alabama

Imagine them having their choice of DeVonta Smith or Waddle? Even after upgrading the WRs room this offseason, there's ample room for Waddle's explosive, game-changing ability -- both as a receiver and returner. This also could make up for the retirement of Julian Edelman.

As for QB, I'm starting to change my tune from what I wrote amid the Patriots' free-agent flurry, that a draft day trade up for a premier passer made sense. It would take the almost perfect scenario for Belichick to pull the trigger on that maneuver. Perhaps they're waiting for the 49ers (Jimmy Garoppolo) and Raiders (Marcus Mariota) to make one of their veterans available to create a competition with Cam Newton.

ESPN - Kiper (4/13)

10. Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State

This makes five quarterbacks in the top 10, with Bill Belichick & Co. making the move up for Fields, my second-ranked quarterback. All the moves the Patriots made in free agency showed me that they believe they can get right back into competing for the AFC East title, but I don't think Cam Newton is the quarterback to get them there. He had too many accuracy issues last season. He's not the long-term answer. Fields had an up-and-down 2020 season, but he can be a star if he becomes more consistent. And I trust that offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will get him there.

NFL.com - Schrager (4/8)

4. Justin Fields, QB, Ohio State

This would be a trade that rocks the NFL, but I don't think it's too crazy. The Patriots don't envision having a pick as high as they currently do (15th) anytime soon, and this is their year to make a big move if they're ever going to get their blue-chip QB to develop. Fields was a highly recruited player who performed on the biggest of stages. This year's first- and second-rounder (No. 46) plus next year's first and third could be enough for New England to get Atlanta to move back 11 spots.
