Week 11 Fantasy Football RB Start'em, Sit'em

The decision on which player to start, or sit, largely comes down to the options on your roster (and/or possibly the players available on your league's waiver wire).

As an example, Kalen Ballage is listed below as a "start" for Week 11. And I'd certainly be comfortable going into Week 11 with him as one of my starting running backs.

Then again, Ballage may be a "sit" for your team.

In other words, if you own Alvin Kamara, Miles Sanders and Ballage, you should start Kamara and Sanders and, in turn, bench Ballage if you can only start two running backs.

For a more direct answer on whether we would start Player X over Player Y, check our Week 11 Fantasy Football Rankings. Instead of making those direct comparisons, the goal here is to highlight players that we like, or dislike, for the week.

Week 11 Fantasy Football RB Start'em

Damien Harris, New England Patriots (at HOU)

In an offense that has generally struggled, Harris has been one of the few bright spots this season. Coming off career highs, Harris carried the ball 22 times for 121 yards against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 10. The second-year back now has reached the 100-yard rushing milestone in half (three) of his six games played this season.

While he's a non-factor as a receiver (only two targets this season), Harris has been incredibly efficient as a runner. Not only is he averaging 5.5 yards per carry on the season, but he has exceeded 5.0 YPC in five of six games.

No team has allowed more YPC to opposing running backs than the Houston Texans (5.53) this season. In addition, only the Detroit Lions (13) have allowed more rushing touchdowns than the Texans (11).

Kalen Ballage, Los Angeles Chargers (vs. NYJ)

Ballage is playing for his third team in a year and the third-year back continues his revenge-game tour in Week 11. The former fourth-round pick of the Miami Dolphins had 23 touches -- 18 carries and five receptions -- for 102 scrimmage yards against the Dolphins last week. He now has 40 total touches in his past two games.

Eventually (and maybe soon), Austin Ekeler will return to take over lead-back duties for the Chargers. Until then, Ballage should continue to lead the backfield as the Chargers face the New York Jets this week.

The Jets have allowed the seventh-most fantasy points per game to opposing running backs this season. Ballage should be aided by positive game script as the Chargers are nearly double-digit favorites and one of the week's highest implied totals.

Antonio Gibson, Washington Football Team (vs. CIN)

Fantasy owners may wish that J.D. McKissic was less involved, but Gibson has finished as a top-11 weekly fantasy running back in each of his past three games. Excluding a modest Week 1 performance, Gibson has finished as a top-11 back in four of his past eight games and no worse than RB29 (flex range) during that eight-game span. On the year, the rookie out of Memphis has performed as a top-12 running back in all scoring formats.

As noted above, the Texans have allowed the highest YPC to running backs this season. The Cincinnati Bengals have allowed the second-most (5.21).

Duke Johnson, Houston Texans (vs. NE)

Not only was it a disappointing performance for Johnson, but Houston's entire offense struggled in Week 10. Things should be better for Johnson (and Houston overall) in Week 11.

With David Johnson on IR, Duke will continue to dominate backfield touches. Aside from one C.J. Prosise reception, Johnson had all of the other 14 running back touches in Week 10. Surprisingly, he was held catchless after hauling in nine receptions over the previous two weeks combined. It would be realistic to expect him to approach the 20 touches he had in Week 9 and finish as a mid-range RB2 this week.

Week 11 Fantasy Football RB Sit'em

Jonathan Taylor, Indianapolis Colts (vs. GB)

It's an ideal matchup for the Colts running backs as the Green Bay Packers have allowed the third-most fantasy points to opposing running backs this season. Unfortunately for Taylor's fantasy owners, there is little reason for confidence.

After starting his career with 13-plus touches in seven consecutive games, Taylor has single-digit touches in back-to-back weeks. In addition, Taylor ranks third on the team during that span in running back touches -- Nyheim Hines (21), Jordan Wilkins (21) and Taylor (17).

Darrell Henderson, Los Angeles Rams (at TB)

Speaking of uncertain workloads, the Rams employ a three-headed backfield as well. Now that rookie Cam Akers is healthy, he has double-digit touches in back-to-back games. Last week, Akers (10) had more touches than both Henderson (eight) and Malcolm Brown (eight).

After averaging 15.5 touches per week from Weeks 2 to 7, Henderson has single-digit touches in back-to-back games. If the team's trio of backs remain (roughly) equally involved, none of them are worth starting in Week 11 in a difficult matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. No team has allowed fewer YPC to opposing running backs than the Bucs (3.03) this season.

J.K. Dobbins/Mark Ingram, Baltimore Ravens (vs. TEN)

Like with the trio backfields above, the Ravens employ similar usage with Dobbins, Ingram and Gus Edwards. With all three healthy again last week, none had more than eight touches -- Edwards (eight), Ingram (seven) and Dobbins (six) -- in Week 10. In the games where all three backs were active, there has been only one time where a back had more than 11 touches (Edwards, 14 in Week 6).

So, even though the Tennessee Titans allow the eighth-most fantasy points to the position, can any of the team's back take advantage? More than likely, the answer is no.

Fantasy Football Week 11 RB Waiver Wire Rankings

Every week, we examine players that may be available on your league's waiver wire that could help your team in the short and/or long term.

For a player to be listed, he must be owned in 50 percent (or less) of Yahoo! leagues. The goal is to provide recommendations of players that have a greater chance of being available on your league's waiver wire. Of course, your league's size and settings could significantly impact whether these players (or better options) are available in your particular league(s).

With that said, here are some running back waiver-wire options to consider heading into Week 11 (Yahoo! % rostered in parenthesis):

[Note: Players listed below are sorted by our preference to add.]

1. Nyheim Hines, Indianapolis Colts (40%)

Predicting when Hines will have a huge game is no easy task, but the third-down back is coming off a season-high 17-touch, 26-point fantasy performance in Week 10. Against the Titans, Hines led the Colts with 12 carries for 70 yards and a touchdown and added five catches for 45 yards and another score.

Over the past three weeks, Hines now has a pair of multiple-touchdown games where he has finished as the weekly RB7 (or better). (Counting Week 1, he has three such games.) Before setting a season high with 17 touches in Week 10, Hines had only 22 combined touches in his previous four games, which should give fantasy managers pause.

On a positive note (for Hines), however, Jonathan Taylor has single-digit touches in back-to-back games. Going forward, Hines' week-to-week usage will likely remain volatile. Even so, Hines and the backfield gets a favorable Week 11 matchup against the Green Bay Packers, who have surrendered the third-most fantasy points to opposing running backs this season.

2. Wayne Gallman Jr., New York Giants (50%)

Even though he hasn't been an efficient runner (3.68 yards per carry) over the past four games, Gallman Jr. has certainly been productive. A fourth-round pick for the Giants in 2017, the fourth-year back has finished the past four weeks as fantasy's RB14 (Week 7), RB16 (Week 8), RB6 (Week 9) and is currently RB10 (Week 10) heading into Monday Night Football. During that four-game span, Gallman has at least 15 touches in three games and he has scored in all four games.

The Giants have a Week 11 bye, but the team placed Devonta Freeman on IR, which means that Gallman will get at least one more start. New York will face Cincinnati in Week 12.

3. Salvon Ahmed, Miami Dolphins (6%)

With Myles Gaskin on IR and Matt Breida out again, Ahmed built upon his seven-touch NFL debut in Week 9 to handle 22 touches in Week 10. The rookie carried the ball 21 times for 85 yards and a touchdown and added a five-yard reception. Entering Monday Night Football, Ahmed has the 12th-most fantasy points (15.5) on the week. For as long as his former collegiate teammate (Gaskin) is out, Ahmed has a chance to maintain his lead-back role.

4. Kalen Ballage, Los Angeles Chargers (19%)

A few days ago, Austin Ekeler told fantasy owners that "the time draws near," which indicates that his return is approaching although he was inactive on Sunday. Once Ekeler is back, he will (obviously) be the team's lead back even if another back serves in the role of early-down complement.

Over the past two weeks, that role has emphatically belonged to Ballage. With a combined 40 touches over the past two games, Ballage had 18 carries for 68 yards and added five catches for 34 yards in Sunday's loss to Miami. If Ekeler is out another week (or more), Ballage will be a volume-based RB2 in Week 11 (or beyond).

5. Cam Akers, Los Angeles Rams (26%)

As part of a three-headed backfield, Akers is not a running back to play now -- and potentially not for the remainder of the season. That said, the rookie was more involved in Week 10 with a team-high 10 carries for 38 rushing yards. (Both Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown had eight touches each.) Akers now has at least nine carries in back-to-back games and the second-round pick has the talent to earn a larger role down the stretch. If you have the bench space, Akers is worth a stash.

Austin Ekeler to return soon?

To all fantasy managers that didn't drop Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler, he has a message for you.

When he says that "the time draws near," it's unclear how "near."

The Chargers have employed a committee backfield since Ekeler was injured with Joshua Kelley, Justin Jackson and even Kalen Ballage leading the backfield in different weeks.

Before leaving Week 4 early, Ekeler had 20-plus touches in the first three games of the season -- 47/236/1 rushing and 16/142 in those three games.

We have updated our rest-of-season fantasy running back rankings and moved Ekeler up to RB17.

Miami Dolphins 2019 Fantasy Football Projections

In addition to viewing our 2019 Fantasy Football Projections by position, we will post our preseason projections per team.

Below you will find our 2019 fantasy football projections for the Miami Dolphins.

QUARTERBACKS

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDPoints
Josh Rosen354.5217.12446.112.9411.1724.891.80.25137.94
Whether Rosen starts Week 1 or not, it would be an upset if he didn't start more games than Ryan Fitzpatrick as the Dolphins try to get a close look at what they have in the second-year quarterback. After all, the Dolphins are the consensus worst team in the league (see consensus NFL power rankings) and could find themselves with the first overall pick in a more talented quarterback class next year.
Ryan Fitzpatrick118.271.5886.55.024.4313.357.20.454.8
Reports are that Fitzpatrick has outplayed Rosen this offseason and I could see a scenario where Fitzpatrick starts Weeks 1 to 4 and then Rosen takes over after their Week 5 bye. Fitzmagic always has the chance to implode any given week, but he's a higher-upside streamer than Rosen when he is the starter. That role just may not last long, if at all.

RUNNING BACKS

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDPoints
Kenyan Drake156.46964.6951415.72.81156.17
Drake finished second on the team in carries (120) to Frank Gore (156) and in targets (73) to Danny Amendola (79) last season. With Gore in Buffalo and a new coaching staff in town, perhaps Drake will see the year-over-year bump in usage that we expected from 2017 to 2018. Despite the less-than-expected workload, Drake was efficient as he averaged 4.5 yards per carry and 9.0 yards per catch while scoring nine total touchdowns on his 173 offensive touches last season.
Kalen Ballage119.2512.62.9816.41050.2981.38
The fourth-round rookie got 28 of his 36 carries in the final three games of the season with Gore sidelined. Although his workload will certainly expand in 2019, he'll form a timeshare with Drake and likely get the smaller share of that split, but there is certainly upside compared to his 14th-round ADP.

WIDE RECEIVERS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
Kenny Stills44.1657.13.7500088.21
Stills has finished as a top-30 receiver in two of the past three years and inside the top-50 every season except 2015. So, in other words, there's a good chance that he outperforms his current ADP. Much of his success is tied to his touchdowns -- six-plus in each of the past three seasons. With only 37 receptions on the year, Stills closed 2018 with just one reception in six of his final 10 games last year.
DeVante Parker48.9650.42.9300082.62
Who's Miami's No. 1 receiver? When the Dolphins drafted him in the first round in 2015, they expected Parker to become that guy. Durability has eluded him and the former top-15 pick has a total of nine touchdowns in 53 games over four seasons. Missing five games last season, Parker had a 134-yard game in Week 8, but failed to reach 50 yards in any of his other 10 games.

That said, he's once again generating offseason buzz as Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald recently wrote that Parker had been "best player in camp the past five weeks." Could this be the year that Parker stays healthy and puts it all together?
Albert Wilson42.9553.43.227.634.20.1578.98
Wilson missed nine games in his first season with the Dolphins and there's a chance that he won't be ready for Week 1, although Wilson himself says he's "right on track." Last season, Wilson averaged 55.9 receiving yards per game and scored four touchdowns, both of which were career highs.

As a rookie, Gesicki converted his 32 targets into 22 scoreless receptions for 202 yards (9.2 Y/R). One of the most athletic tight ends in the league, the second-year tight end should make more (but how much more?) of a receiving impact in 2019 for the playmaker-deficient Dolphins.

Over the final five games of the 2017 season, Drake ran for a league-high 444 yards on 91 carries (4.88 YPC) with two touchdowns and added 17 receptions for 150 yards. While his December workload (21.6 touches per game) won't carry over into 2018 as the co-starter with Frank Gore, Drake could still finish as a top-20 fantasy back in 2018.
Frank Gore121.5467.83.918.6145.11.30.591.49
Returning home to Miami, the 35-year-old Gore has been incredibly durable -- seven consecutive 16-game seasons. Remarkably consistent, Gore has finished as a top-20 fantasy running back every season except for his rookie campaign, although he has averaged less than 4.0 YPC in each of the past three seasons. Listed as the co-starter with Drake, it's possible that the veteran back once again exceeds expectations.
Kalen Ballage47.8200.81.217.5148.81.21.546.36
The 229-pound rookie out of Arizona State had impressed the coaching staff during the offseason workouts, but training camp and the preseason has been a different story so far. The rookie back is clearly behind Drake and Gore for snaps.

There may be some game-to-game volatility, but there is a strong chance that he outperforms his current ADP. In fact, I wouldn't be surprise if Stills turns out into Miami's most productive fantasy wide receiver in 2018.
DeVante Parker63834.85.40000.3115.28
I've been (too) high on Parker in his young career only to be disappointed. Given that Jarvis Landry and his 570 targets over the past four years are no longer on the roster, the 25-year-old Parker would have upside if he were able to put it all together this season. Unfortunately, a broken middle finger has his Week 1 status in jeopardy and reports from training camp have been anything but glowing before the broken finger.
Danny Amendola63.4678.43.50000.388.24
With 60-plus catches in two of the past three seasons with the Patriots, Amendola could post a similar total (or even more) with Jarvis Landry no longer in Miami. Amendola has worked primarily with the first-team offense in camp and he's an excellent late-round target in PPR formats.
Albert Wilson43.3558.63.20000.274.66
Wilson set career highs (42/554/3) across the board last season. Signed to a three-year, $24 million contract, Wilson should get opportunities to improve upon last year's numbers even though his exact role remains unclear.

Danny Amendola59.7638.830000.381.28
With 60-plus catches in two of the past three seasons with the Patriots, Amendola could post a similar total (or even more) with Jarvis Landry no longer in Miami. Amendola has worked primarily with the first-team offense in camp and he's an excellent late-round target in PPR formats.
Albert Wilson42.2544.43.20000.273.24
Wilson set career highs (42/554/3) across the board last season. Signed to a three-year, $24 million contract, Wilson should get opportunities to improve upon last year's numbers even though his exact role remains unclear.

Mike Gesicki33.5442.240000.567.22
Freakishly athletic, Gesicki has rare physical tools: 6-foot-5, 247 pounds, 4.54 forty, 41.5-inch vertical and 6.76 3-cone. Moreover, there is little (real) competition atop the depth chart at tight end so Gesicki has a chance to make an immediate impact as a rookie. That said, rookie tight ends historically struggle to produce fantasy-relevant numbers.

2018 Fantasy Football Projections: Miami Dolphins

In addition to viewing our 2018 Fantasy Football Projections by position, we will post our preseason projections per team.

Below you will find our 2018 fantasy football projections for the Miami Dolphins.

Quarterbacks

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDFLPoints
Ryan Tannehill528.2343.3385622.715.339.2168.61.22.9232.7
Missing 19 games over the past two seasons including all of 2017, Tannehill (ACL) has been fully cleared. If he's able to stay healthy, the volume could be there for Tannehill to be a productive QB2 as the Dolphins were one of four teams to throw it 600-plus times last season.

Running Backs

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDFLPoints
Kenyan Drake188.2865.76.438.32932.31.6164.87
Over the final five games of the 2017 season, Drake ran for a league-high 444 yards on 91 carries (4.88 YPC) with two touchdowns and added 17 receptions for 150 yards. While it's unlikely his December workload (21.6 touches per game) carries over into 2018, a top-20 fantasy season is within reach.
Frank Gore109.8422.73.518.21421.30.584.27
Returning home to Miami, the 35-year-old Gore has been incredibly durable -- seven consecutive 16-game seasons. Remarkably consistent, Gore has finished as a top-20 fantasy running back every season except for his rookie campaign, although he has averaged less than 4.0 YPC in each of the past three seasons.
Kalen Ballage51214.21.321.8185.31.51.553.75
The 229-pound rookie out of Arizona State has impressed the coaching staff during the offseason workouts, but he figures to be third in line for touches behind both Drake and Gore.

Kenny Stills53.18395.80000.5117.7
Over the past two seasons, Stills has 100 catches for 1,573 yards and 15 touchdowns and he's finished as a top-30 receiver in standard-scoring formats both seasons. There may be some game-to-game volatility, but there is a strong chance that he outperforms his current ADP.
Albert Wilson42.2544.43.20000.273.24
Wilson set career highs (42/554/3) across the board last season. Signed to a three-year, $24 million contract, Wilson should get plenty of opportunities to improve upon last year's numbers even though it's Parker, Stills and Amendola working mostly with the first-team offense early on in camp.
Danny Amendola51.9555.32.60000.370.53
With 60-plus catches in two of the past three seasons with the Patriots, Amendola could post a similar total (or even more) with Jarvis Landry no longer in Miami. Along with Parker and Stills, Amendola has worked primarily with the first-team offense early in camp although he'll compete with Albert Wilson for snaps in the slot.

Missing 19 games over the past two seasons including all of 2017, Tannehill (ACL) has been fully cleared. Now that Jarvis Landry is in Cleveland and given that DeVante Parker has generally underperformed compared to expectations, Miami is far from being loaded with weapons. That said, the volume could be there for Tannehill to be a productive QB2, if healthy, as the Dolphins were one of four teams to throw it 600-plus times last season.

Over the final five games of the 2017 season, Drake ran for a league-high 444 yards on 91 carries (4.88 YPC) with two touchdowns and added 17 receptions for 150 yards. Adding future HOFer Frank Gore to the running back room with rookie Kalen Ballage likely means that Drake won't see his December workload (21.6 touches per game) carry over into the 2018 season even though he's likely to be the team's most productive back.
Frank Gore103.7399.23.319148.21.30.581.34

Gore has finished as a top-20 fantasy running back every season except for his rookie campaign although he has averaged less than 4.0 YPC in each of the past three seasons. Forming a committee -- and perhaps not getting the largest share -- with Kenyan Drake and rookie Kalen Ballage, Gore may fail to average 15-plus carries per game for the first time since his rookie season.

DeVante Parker68904.45.40000.3122.24
I've been (too) high on Parker in his young career only to be disappointed. So, perhaps I'm a bit gun-shy and am too cautious in my outlook for Parker this year. He appears to be doing the right things as Joe Schad notes: "Dolphins coaches say few if any players have spent more time in the building than Parker since last season ended." Given that Jarvis Landry and his 570 targets over the past four years are no longer on the roster, the 25-year-old Parker has loads of upside if he's able to put it all together this season.
Kenny Stills50.8802.65.60000.5112.86

Albert Wilson42.2544.42.50000.269.04
Wilson set career highs (42/554/3) across the board last season. With Jarvis Landry gone, there could be a significant opportunity to post even better numbers and Wilson has impressed the coaching staff in offseason workouts.
