Jarrett Stidham17.410.4118.30.730.684.63.50.056.94

Mac Jones: While it would be unfair to compare any quarterback to Tom Brady, Jones (like Brady) makes up for a lack of elite arm strength and mobility with quick processing ability and accuracy. Not only did Jones beat out Cam Newton for the starting job, but he won't have to look other his shoulder (if he struggles) with Newton no longer on the roster.

RUNNING BACKS

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDPoints
Damien Harris230.11058.55.7521.6170.20.9173.57

Jakob Johnson0005.631.50.27.15
Brandon Bolden1.25.20.031.18.402.09

Damien Harris: In terms of usage, Harris has been a non-factor as a receiver (five receptions in 2020) and that may not change much with James White returning to Foxboro given his well-defined third-down role within the Patriots offense. With New England handing the keys to the franchise to Mac Jones, the fantasy outlook for Harris should improve as he won't have to worry about Cam Newton vulturing rushing touchdowns.

James White: With Tom Brady in Tampa, White set five-year lows in targets (62), touches (84), yards from scrimmage (496) and touchdowns (three). White benefits from the team moving on from Cam Newton as it should translate into fewer QB rush attempts and more running back targets.

Rhamondre Stevenson: Stevenson's strong play -- 30/216/5 rushing in three preseason games -- was one factor the Patriots were comfortable parting ways with Sony Michel. Even so, the fourth-round rookie out of Oklahoma will likely need an injury to either Harris and/or White to be a factor in fantasy this season.

Jakobi Meyers: Meyers led the Patriots with 81 targets, 59 receptions and 729 yards in 2020. While the team added Nelson Agholor and Kendall Bourne in free agency, there's a good chance that the Meyers leads the position group in receiving once again.

Nelson Agholor: Agholor set a career high in receiving yards (896) and tied a career high in touchdowns (eight) in his lone season in Las Vegas. While I expect Meyers to continue to perform as the team's WR1, it wouldn't surprise me if Agholor came close to duplicating his 2020 numbers.

Jonnu Smith: One year after investing a pair of Day 2 picks at the position, the Patriots double-dipped in the free-agent tight end market with Smith and Hunter Henry. Smith scored more touchdowns in 2020 (nine including a rushing score) than he did in his first three NFL seasons combined (eight). And while he set career highs in targets (65), receptions (41) and receiving yards (448), Smith likely frustrated his fantasy managers as he was held to 20 receiving yards or less in more than half of his games last season.

Hunter Henry: Missing multiple games in four consecutive seasons including all of 2018, Henry had 60 catches on 93 targets, both of which were career highs, for 613 yards and four touchdowns in 2020. Unfortunately for both Smith and Henry, however, their individual upside may cancel each other out.

Our 2021 Fantasy Football Projections will be viewable by both position and team.

Mac Jones203.5132.31475.48.754.5819.961.70.594.03

Cam Newton: Newton struggled as a passer in 2020 and many reasons -- return from injury, new team with unusual offseason, lack of pass-catching talent, etc. -- attributed to his woeful passing numbers. Even though 33 quarterbacks threw more touchdowns than Newton (eight) and he threw more interceptions (10) than touchdowns, he also scored the 16th-most fantasy points as he rushed for 12 touchdowns.

Likely to run for fewer scores and throw for more, Newton has improved weapons in the passing game. At this point of the preseason, Newton appears to be in the driver's seat for the starting job even though Mac Jones, New England's first-round pick, has made it a real competition. If Newton struggles, however, it's possible that the Patriots make a (permanent) midseason switch to Jones.

Mac Jones: While it would be unfair to compare any quarterback to Tom Brady, Jones (like Brady) makes up for a lack of elite arm strength and mobility with quick processing ability and accuracy. It would be reasonable to assume that Jones makes some starts during the season even if he doesn't win the job outright to begin the season.

Damien Harris: In terms of usage, Harris is a non-factor as a receiver (five receptions in 2020) and that likely won't change much with James White returning to Foxboro given his well-defined third-down role within the Patriots offense. The other major obstacle to Harris being a top-24 option is the presence of Cam Newton, who rushed for six times as many touchdowns as Harris (12 to two) in 2020. As long as Newton holds off Mac Jones as the starter, there is the chance/likelihood that he vultures goal-line opportunities from Harris. While the skill set is there for a breakout, he's more correctly drafted as a flex option, which matches his ADP.

James White: With Tom Brady in Tampa, White set five-year lows in targets (62), touches (84), yards from scrimmage (496) and touchdowns (three). White would likely benefit from a quarterback shift from Newton to Jones as it would likely translate into fewer QB rush attempts and more running back targets.

Rhamondre Stevenson: Stevenson's strong play -- 25/193/4 rushing in two preseason games -- could lead to the Patriots parting ways with Sony Michel. Even so, the fourth-round rookie out of Oklahoma is unlikely to carry much fantasy value in 2021 as both Harris and White will be featured more prominently even if Michel is cut/dealt.

Week 11 Fantasy Football QB Start'em, Sit'em

The decision on which player to start, or sit, largely comes down to the options on your roster (and/or possibly the players available on your league's waiver wire).

As an example, Justin Herbert is listed below as a "start" for Week 11. And I'd certainly be comfortable going into Week 11 with him as my starting quarterback.

Then again, Herbert may be a "sit" for your team.

In other words, if you own both Patrick Mahomes and Herbert, you should start Mahomes and, in turn, bench Herbert.

For a more direct answer on whether we would start Player X over Player Y, check our Week 11 Fantasy Football Rankings. Instead of making those direct comparisons, the goal here is to highlight players that we like, or dislike, for the week.

Week 11 Fantasy Football QB Start'em

Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers (vs. NYJ)

Once again, Herbert appears on this list. With the exception of Week 3 against the Carolina Panthers, Herbert has scored at least 21 fantasy points in all of his starts. Over his past six games, the rookie has finished no worse than the weekly QB11 and has averaged 26.66 fantasy points per game.

In all eight games this season, Herbert has either thrown for 300-plus yards and/or accounted for multiple touchdowns. Even though he threw for a season-low 187 yards last week, he threw two touchdowns and rushed for another. The strong-armed mobile quarterback has averaged 22.0 rushing yards per game and scored three rushing touchdowns this season as well.

One potential concern is game script working against Herbert's fantasy production, as the Chargers are nearly double-digit favorites. That said, few teams have a higher implied total than the Chargers this week. Meanwhile, only three teams have allowed more fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks than the New York Jets this season.

Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers (at JAX)

Big Ben will face one of those three teams that have allowed more fantasy points to the position than the Jets. Like Herbert and Chargers, Roethlisberger and Steelers are double-digit favorites and have one of the week's highest implied totals. The Steelers have one of the league's better trios at wide receivers with JuJu Smith-Schuster, Diontae Johnson and Chase Claypool all ranked inside my top-15 fantasy wide receivers for the week.

Roethlisberger started relatively slow this season with seven consecutive games finishing outside of the top 10 weekly fantasy quarterbacks. That said, he has exploited back-to-back soft matchups against the Dallas Cowboys and Cincinnati Bengals by throwing for 300-plus yards and three-plus touchdowns in each game.

Cam Newton, New England Patriots (at HOU)

Heading into Week 11, Newton has only two 200-yard passing games and only three passing scores this season. In fact, he has thrown more than twice as many interceptions (seven) as touchdowns this season. Even so, he has finished as a top-12 fantasy quarterback in three consecutive weeks, four of his past five and six of eight games this season.

One of the most prolific dual-threat quarterbacks in NFL history, it has been Newton's rushing prowess that has helped him compensate for a lack of gaudy passing statistics. Newton has rushed for nine touchdowns this season and is tied with Atlanta's Todd Gurley for third-most in the NFL. Only Dalvin Cook and Kyler Murray have more.

While the Houston Texans have been middle of the pack in limiting fantasy production of quarterbacks, they rank last in the NFL in rushing defense (167.4 YPG allowed) and YPC allowed (5.2).

Derek Carr, Las Vegas Raiders (vs. KC)

The Raiders are on a three-game winning streak and that has led to disappointing fantasy results for Carr. In those wins, Carr has thrown 25 or fewer pass attempts with 165 passing yards or less in every game.

Before that span, however, Carr had a five-game stretch where he scored more than 20 fantasy points in four games and threw for multiple scores in all five. One of those matchups was against the Kansas City Chiefs, where the Raiders were forced to keep up with the Patrick Mahomes-led high-powered offense. In that game, Carr threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns, both of which are season highs.

Even though the matchup is difficult on paper, a rematch against the Chiefs could lead to enough volume that pushes Carr into viable streamer territory in Week 11.

Week 11 Fantasy Football QB Sit'em

Carson Wentz, Philadelphia Eagles (at CLE)

Wentz ended a four-game streak of games with multiple touchdowns as he failed to throw or run for a touchdown in Week 10 against the New York Giants. Wentz now has finished as the QB24 in back-to-back performances with a total of only 331 passing yards in those two games combined. It's not a daunting matchup against the Cleveland Browns this week and a healthier supporting cast around him is certainly a positive, but he'll remain outside my top 12 looking in as long as his struggles continue.

Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans (at BAL)

Last week, the Indianapolis Colts ended Tannehill's five-game streak with multiple touchdowns and limited last year's NFL Comeback Player of the Year to a season-low 147 passing yards. Tannehill now has thrown for 158 yards or less in back-to-back weeks.

Even though he had thrown multiple touchdowns over a five-game stretch, Tannehill now has finished outside the top-12 fantasy quarterbacks in four consecutive weeks. With another tough matchup on the horizon, Tannehill is once again outside my top-12 quarterbacks for the week.

Jared Goff, Los Angeles Rams (at TB)

Despite a soft matchup against the Seattle Seahawks last week, Goff was unable to capitalize on the opportunity. While he threw for 302 yards, he failed to throw a touchdown and ended the week with only 10.48 fantasy points.

Since starting the season with 23-plus fantasy points in three of his first five starts, Goff now has failed to score 17 fantasy points or finish higher than QB18 in four consecutive starts. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have allowed the eighth-fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season.

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDPoints
Cam Newton554.7341.13855.224.6813.8764.9298.52.92272.56
Reports indicate that Bill Belichick has informed the team that the one-time league MVP will start in Week 1, even if he refuses to publicly name Newton as the starter. Playing only two games in 2019, the chip-on-his-shoulder version of Newton offers plenty of upside if he can stay healthy in 2020 as he has five top-four fantasy seasons under his belt.
Jarrett Stidham38.624.5256.71.60.875.520.90.1117.68

RUNNING BACKS

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDPoints
James White67.12651.6859.4525.74.16114.11
Perennially undervalued in fantasy drafts, it was White, not Sony Michel, that has led the Patriots running backs in fantasy scoring in both of Michel's first two seasons. One of the league's best pass-catching backs, White has more than 70 catches in back-to-back seasons and that trend could continue in 2020 given the team's relatively weak group of pass-catchers.
Sony Michel143557.73.586.347.90.1983.18
With Tom Brady now in Tampa, perhaps the Patriots rely more heavily on the ground game, but Michel's lack of involvement as a receiver make him a TD-or-bust weekly option. Ending the year as the RB28 in half-PPR formats, Michel finished as a weekly top-18 back only twice last year.
Damien Harris105.6411.82.117.455.50.2260.71
A third-round pick in 2019, Harris managed only four carries for 12 yards in two games last season. As difficult as it is to decypher how this coaching staff will allocate touches to the team's running backs, Harris carries with him some sleeper appeal into the 2020 season. That said, a hand injury puts his Week 1 status in jeopardy.
Rex Burkhead44180.41.3215.5136.40.8144.46
Burkhead averaged a little more than seven touches (7.08) per game and 44.7 scrimmage yards per game last season. When the backfield is at full strength, Burkhead's 2020 usage rate is unlikely to exceed his 2019 rate.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Julian Edelman84.4949.55.065.531.90.06128.86
Extremely consistent since becoming a prominent part of the Patriots offense in 2013, Edelman had 100 catches for 1,117 yards and six touchdowns on 153 targets last season. It was the third time that Edelman has played a full 16-game slate over that span and the veteran slot receiver has a minimum of 150 targets, 98 catches and 1,056 yards in each of those three seasons. With Tom Brady now in Tampa, however, it's likely that Edelman fails to repeat those numbers even if he manages to play all 16 games in his age-34 season.
N'Keal Harry51.1682.24.474.4330.0498.58
Harry spent the first half of the year on IR and managed just 12/105/2 receiving over seven regular-season games to close the season. The 2019 first-round pick will obviously improve upon his rookie numbers, but it's unclear how quickly he will be able to develop a strong rapport with a new quarterback in an unusual offseason. Reports that Gunner Olszewski has outplayed Harry in training camp doesn't generate much excitement for a second-year breakout from last year's first-rounder.

While not guaranteed to be the starter when a signed his one-year deal, all signs point to the one-time league MVP winning the competition for the starting gig. As ESPN's Mike Reiss notes, Jarrett Stidham is "fading out of the quarterback picture" and it's been "basically the Cam Newton Show." Playing only two games in 2019, the chip-on-his-shoulder version of Newton offers plenty of upside if he can stay healthy in 2020. In his first eight NFL seasons, Newton performed as a top-four fantasy quarterback five times.

Lamar Miller37.41590.945.641.20.226.86
At a minimum, Miller, who missed all of 2019 with a torn ACL, provides insurance for Michel (foot), who may not be ready for Week 1. More than likely, however, it just adds more uncertainty to a backfield that is often difficult to project.
Damien Harris90.2351.81.85.6420.1751.2
A third-round pick in 2019, Harris managed only four carries for 12 yards in two games last season. Often difficult to decypher how the coaching staff will allocate touches to the team's running backs, Harris has some sleeper appeal as there is a chance that Michel lands on the PUP (and sits the first six weeks) and free-agent addition Lamar Miller is returning from a torn ACL.

WIDE RECEIVERS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
Julian Edelman82.5919.94.745.531.90.06123.98
Extremely consistent since becoming a prominent part of the Patriots offense in 2013, Edelman had 100 catches for 1,117 yards and six touchdowns on 153 targets last season. It was the third time that Edelman has played a full 16-game slate over that span and the veteran slot receiver has a minimum of 150 targets, 98 catches and 1,056 yards in each of those three seasons. With Tom Brady now in Tampa, however, it's likely that Edelman fails to repeat those numbers even if he manages to play all 16 games in his age-34 season.
N'Keal Harry46.1610.83.924.4330.0488.14
Harry spent the first half of the year on IR and managed just 12/105/2 receiving over seven regular-season games to close the season. The 2019 first-round pick will obviously improve upon his rookie numbers, but it's unclear how quickly he will be able to develop a strong rapport with a new quarterback in an unusual offseason. Reports that Gunner Olszewski has outplayed Harry in training camp doesn't generate much excitement for a second-year breakout from last year's first-rounder.
Mohamed Sanu49.3534.93.8200076.41
Sanu spent half his season with Atlanta (33/313/1 in seven games) and half with New England (26/207/1 in eight games). Given the unusual offseason and change at quarterback, Sanu is nothing more than bench depth in the deepest of leagues.

With Matt LaCosse deciding to opt out of the 2020 season, the Patriots have expressed some interest in Delanie Walker, who is still an unsigned free agent. While rookie tight ends often struggle to make a significant impact in their first season, Asiasi has been getting some rave reviews at camp.

QUARTERBACKS

PlayerAtt.Comp.YardsTDINTRushYardsTDPoints
Cam Newton482.1290.53254.221.2111.5760.5278.32.72236.02
While not guaranteed to be the starter, it'd logical to expect the one-time league MVP to win the competition for the starting gig. Newton played only two games in 2019, but he offers plenty of upside if he's healthy and becomes the starter. In his first eight NFL seasons, Newton performed as a top-four fantasy quarterback five times.
Jarrett Stidham111.270.6739.54.612.55.520.90.1145.77
With the Patriots signing Newton, beat reporters haven't ruled out Stidham still beating out his fellow Auburn alum. Even if he wins the quarterback competition this offseason, Stidham won't be much more than a QB streamer in his first season as an NFL starter.

RUNNING BACKS

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDPoints
James White67.12651.6859.4519.84.01112.62
Perennially undervalued in fantasy drafts, it was White, not Sony Michel, that has led the Patriots running backs in fantasy scoring in both of Michel's first two seasons. One of the league's best pass-catching backs, White has more than 70 catches in back-to-back seasons and that trend should continue in 2020.
Sony Michel143557.73.585.4410.1682.31
The last time the Patriots finished outside the top 12 in both scoring and total offense was when Michel was eight years old (2003). In addition, Michel, who had May foot surgery, was placed on the active/PUP list and isn't a lock to be ready for Week 1, especially with the Pats signing Lamar Miller as insurance.
Rex Burkhead74.8306.72.2416.6146.10.8763.94
Burkhead averaged a little more than seven touches (7.08) per game and 44.7 scrimmage yards per game last season. When the backfield is at full strength, Burkhead's 2020 usage rate is unlikely to exceed his 2019 rate.
Lamar Miller35.2149.60.886.749.20.2326.54
At a minimum, Miller, who missed all of 2019 with a torn ACL, provides insurance for Michel (foot), who may not be ready for Week 1. More than likely, however, it just adds more uncertainty to a backfield that is often difficult to project.
Damien Harris44171.60.881.914.30.0624.23
A third-round pick in 2019, Harris managed only four carries for 12 yards in two games last season. Even if Michel starts the season on the PUP list (and misses at least the first six games), Harris does not have a ton of upside in New England's crowded backfield.

Carolina Panthers 2019 Fantasy Football Projections

In addition to viewing our 2019 Fantasy Football Projections by position, we will post our preseason projections per team.

Below you will find our 2019 fantasy football projections for the Carolina Panthers.

Cam Newton539.7350.83858.925.114.84103.1505.24.12300.32
From 2011 (his rookie season) through 2017, Newton had finished as a top-four fantasy quarterback in five of seven seasons. A shoulder injury slowed and eventually sidelined him down the stretch last season, but Newton was third in fantasy points through Week 13. Having already resumed throwing, Newton has plenty of upside compared to his current ADP with good health.

RUNNING BACKS

PlayerAtt.YardsTDRec.YardsTDPoints
Christian McCaffrey243.81145.97.3193.2754.95.36266.1
The iron man of NFL running backs, McCaffrey almost never comes off the field and the do-it-all back would have eclipsed the 2,000-YFS mark if he played his normal allotment of snaps in a meaningless Week 17. Breaking Matt Forte's single-season record for receptions by a running back, Run CMC totalled 1,965 yards from scrimmage, 107 catches and 13 total touchdowns in his sophomore campagain. Even though I have Saquon Barkley ranked ahead of him, McCaffrey (or any of the top four backs) have a case to be the first player off the board in fantasy drafts this summer.

WIDE RECEIVERS

PlayerRec.YardsTDRushYardsTDPoints
D.J. Moore63.3892.54.9116.1120.80.48133.67
Including his rushing yards (172), Moore had 960 yards as a rookie but only two touchdowns. A back-end WR2 based on my current projections, Moore has some upside entering his sophomore campaign.
Curtis Samuel48.3589.34.238.677.40.4394.63
Scoring seven touchdowns on just 47 touches in 2018, Samuel exceeded 70-plus yards in three of his final five games last season. While his touchdown rate should regress and he could be fourth in line for targets from Cam, the third-year receiver should set career highs in catches and yards if he can stay healthy.
Chris Hogan25.5362.12.1700049.23
A major disappointment last season, Hogan was unable to capitalize on an early-season Julian Edelman suspension and was essentially a non-factor in New England last year. Projected for six-year lows, 7-11 is now closed.
Jarius Wright33.1357.51.3200043.67
In his first season with Carolina, Wright set a career high in receptions (43). Last year's line (43/447/1) is likely a best-case scenario and he isn't fantasy-relevant outside of the deepest leagues.

Greg Olsen51.4575.74.3700083.79
Now 34 years old and coming off two injury-riddled seasons, Olsen had 27 catches for 291 yards and four touchdowns in nine games last year. I have Olsen projected to finish third on the team in both targets and receptions behind Christian McCaffrey and D.J. Moore, but he could turn in a top-12 performance at a weak position if he's able to maintain good health.
Ian Thomas35.9366.22.1500049.52
Over five December games, Thomas had 25 catches for 246 yards and two touchdowns. With Olsen returning for another season, fantasy owners will likely have to wait another season for a breakout from the sophomore tight end, but he'd immediately become a fringe TE1 if Olsen were to miss time again in 2019.

2018 Fantasy Football QB Strength of Schedule (SOS): Weeks 13 to 16

There are many factors to consider in a player's outlook and his fantasy strength of schedule is far from the most important aspect.

If you're debating a pair of players to add from the waiver wire or acquire via trade, however, a more favorable fantasy schedule could potentially break the tie of two players that you would otherwise view as comparable.

With that said, our 2018 fantasy football strength of schedule ranks a player's remaining schedule in terms of average fantasy points allowed collectively by their remaining opponents.
